What’s in your dish liquid? (giveaway!)
Is your dish liquid environmentally-friendly? How about human-friendly? Does it clean your dishes well?
Tropical Traditions recently sent me a gigantic 1 gallon jug of their Household Traditions Dish Liquid. And let me tell you, this stuff is awesome!
I haven’t noticed any difference in comparison to the usual eco-friendly dish liquid that I use, in terms of how clean it makes my dishes. Both this dish liquid and my regular brand easily clean anything that’s caked onto a dish without a problem. This is good news, because I tend to use my blender, food processor, and George Foreman grill on a regular basis, all of which can be a real pain to clean. So, in essence: Household Traditions Dish Liquid works really well.
The ingredient list is as follows: Deionized water, Coconut and sugar-based cleansing and sudsing agents, surfactants, emulsifiers.
The second item on that list frustrates me a little bit because it’s a very vague description. The last two items are also a bit vague, but the good thing is that all of these ingredients are approved as safe. It’s a nice, natural way to clean dishes, and this dish liquid is also free of fragrances, dyes and “other common triggers for respiratory or skin irritations” (I’m looking at you, Mary Anne ;)).
It’s neat that this dish liquid is based on coconut, which is a great moisturizer! So your hands get to be soothed while you clean your dishes.
But I think my favourite part about this dish liquid is the disclaimer on the front, which reads:
Caution: Use Common Sense. Mild eye irritant. Avoid contact with eyes. Do not drink.
Hehe! There aren’t many brands that will stamp the phrase Use Common Sense on their product label. I approve!

I always buy the eco cleansers…my only complaint is that they aren’t as sudsy, but I don’t let it bother me too much. 🙂
I’ve found this one to be pretty decently sudsy, to be honest. Too much bubbles get in the way of my dish-washing, though, so maybe I prefer dish liquids that aren’t as sudsy, hehe.
Would love to try! I wash pretty much everything by hand since there are just 2 of us & don’t want to waste the dishwasher so trying a decent eco friendly one would be great!

I have become an amazing dishwasher – I haven’t had a dishwasher since I was in high school living with my parents. It has been over 10 years. I can literally wash and dry in record time. Practice makes perfect, I guess!
Me too! Some people really hate washing dishes by hand but I actually kind of enjoy it (but lets keep that on the DL ;)).

Our home is the “hub” for family and friends. It is not unusual to have over 10 people for dinner at night, they just drop in or come home with my kids. I love it, though. They always joke that I just add more water to whatever is cooking. The only bad part is that we are still in our small home with no dishwasher. So all dishes are done by hand, and as you can guess, it gets to be alot. This would be welcome!

I would love to win some of this dishwash liquid. I have been looking in all the stores I go to but can never afford some of them. I am now trying another one I bought in the natural section of Walmart one by seventh generation that is cheaper. I don’t trust anything these days about many items saying they’re organic or natural when they have code names & chemicals disguised in them too. In reading the label on this one I am trying I still see chemicals that NaturalNews.com says is bad for you.Laural Sufates can be disguised and so can other perservatives, etc. Reading all the labels has become very stressful and time consuming to say the least.I am going to trust GOD and ask for His protection and knowledge on this and let Him lead me. If it’s in His will for me to try this, then I will win:) Thanks and Let GOD be your guide too:)
I am already using a ecofriendly dishsopap – at least, I hope I am:) The brand I am using is Dishmate Pear but it is a small bottle and very liquid. Maybe I should try Household Tradition’s dish soap as it comes in a nice 1 gallon jug. I probably won’t run out as fast as with my little Dishmate bottle.
I think it is interesting that dishsoap can contain sugar and coconut and be a cleaner. It is an interesting combination. I would love to win this giveaway to try out Tropical Traditions Dishsoap. We do a lot of dishes around here.
This is great!! I figure you eat a little bit of your dish soap each time you use your dishes.. That would add up over time! 😉
As a mother of ten, I do lots of dishes! My children load the dishwasher and I usually end up doing the hand-wash items. It is so hard to find a product that is natural, good for the septic system, good for your skin AND gets the job done. I would love to try this product.
We are without a dishwasher right now and my children do the dishes! (lots of dishes with 10 of us!) I am concerned about what they are getting their hands into, literally, so would love to try this natural alternative! Looks like it would last us a while, too, as it is such an economical size! I would love to try this dish detergent. I haven’t been very pleased with the other “natural” dish detergents I have tried and would love to try this one from Tropical Traditions. I don’t have a reason as to why I should win anymore than anyone else. My sister says, I was on the phone with her a few minutes after starting this post, that I should state I have been committed to using natural products for many years now and have led many others toward healthier alternatives. While that is true, it is not something I would have necessarily thought of. I just share what I learn, what I like and what I believe works best for my family’s needs. I don’t watch much TV nor have use for sales ads for products I know I won’t purchase, thus my repertoire of amusing labels is very limited too. What I would say, that I find amusing at times, is marketing strategies that are employed by companies seeking to get ahead of the competition. As a consumer, all I want, is a solid product that does the job it was intended to do. I don’t need fancy names or perfumes to attract me to the product, just make sure what you offer does what it is intended to do. I have been pleased with my other purchases from Tropical Traditions, from the food selections, and would love to see the benefits of purchasing my cleaning products from them too! LOL, I think the caution has to do with the coconut ingredient, and I bet some people had tried to do just that. When I usually encounter tough stains, I always try to dillute it first with water or boil water over the stubborn grease. But this might just make me want to pick one up at the grocery. Is it available everywhere?
